Start with an idea, not a perfect file

You do not need a finished graphic design for your first tattoo. A direction is enough: a symbol, plant, text, ornament, memory, mood or a few references that show what you like.

The artist then helps translate the idea into a size and level of detail that will stay readable after healing. With very small tattoos, simplifying the line is often better than adding tiny details that may blur over time.

Placement affects pain and longevity

Softer areas such as the upper arm, thigh or calf are usually easier for a first tattoo. Ribs, sternum, ankle or inner arm can feel more intense because the skin is thinner or closer to bone.

Placement also affects how the tattoo ages. Areas with friction, sun exposure or frequent movement need a cleaner composition and careful aftercare.

What to send when asking for a quote

Send 2-5 references, approximate size in centimetres, a photo of the body placement and the language you prefer. This saves time and helps estimate the price faster.

Also mention what you want to avoid: a very dark result, colour, specific styles or a highly visible placement. Negative preferences are as useful as inspiration.

The day before your session

Sleep well, eat normally, drink water and avoid alcohol. Wear clothing that gives access to the tattoo area and will not rub against fresh skin afterwards.

If you are ill, sunburned or the skin in the tattoo area is irritated, it is better to reschedule. Well-prepared skin matters for clean lines and healing.

FAQ

Is a small tattoo always best for the first one?

Often, but not always. The size should match the detail of the design and the body placement.
